Fans of Fight Club were thrilled to discover that Tyler Durden lives, after his resurrection in a comic book sequel. And now, Fight Club author Chuck Palahniuk is entering the ring of his created world as his very own character in the comic mini-series.

On Wednesday, Dark Horse Comics announced at San Diego Comic-Con that Palahniuk will appear in Issue 3 of Fight Club 2, becoming "a reoccurring presence" beside his popular characters.

"Consider Fight Club's cultural impact, and you have to imagine its impact, and Tyler's impact, on Chuck himself," Dark Horse Comics Editor-in-Chief Scott Allie said in a press release.

"Fans sometimes blur the line between the artist and the work, and having lived with these characters for twenty years, Chuck's diving head on into it here. Authors from Philip Roth to Bret Easton Ellis to Grant Morrison have popped up in their own work before, but Chuck's taking it into all new territory, doing what he always does — giving you an experience no one else can provide."

Written by Palahniuk and illustrated by Cameron Stewart, with covers by David Mack, Fight Club 2 picks up 10 years after the explosive events in the book (and cult classic movie by David Fincher). Main character Sebastian is married to Marla and the couple have a nine-year-old son. Missing the passion in her life, Marla cuts her husband's meds, only to have Durden come back to life to pick right back up on "Project Mayhem."

"By openly acknowledging the mechanics of film, David Fincher made his version seem more real and more mythic at the same time," Palahniuk said in the press release. "By dragging my own creative process into FC2 I'm doing the equivalent of demonstrating splices, reel change-over marks, film breaks and rattling the film in the movie projector gate."

While the author will make his debut in Issue 3, the mini-series' following issue will feature appearances from Palahniuk's real life writing pals including Chelsea Cain, Monica Drake, Lidia Yuknavitch, Suzy Vitello and Diana Jordan.

"Literary critics claim that Ken Kesey's mental hospital in Cuckoo's Nest and Toni Morrison's plantation in Beloved represent those authors' post-graduate writing workshops," Palahniuk said. "To prevent anyone from thinking my own workshop is either a support group for the terminally ill or a bare-knuckle mosh pit, I've included it in Fight Club 2."

Fans at San Diego Comic-Con can get their hands on two exclusives. The first is a Fight Club 2 Issue 1 cover by Joelle Jones at Dark Horse Booth (#2615), along with the exclusive edition of the vinyl audiobook Fight Club prequel "Expedition" from the short story collection Make Something Up: Stories You Can't Unread.

Get the vinyl and comics signed by the author on Friday, July 10 from 5 to 6 p.m., and Sunday, July 12 from 11 a.m. to 12:50 p.m.

Even though we all know the first rule of Fight Club, Palahniuk will appear at two panels during Comic-Con: Dark Horse Takes Over The World and Fight Club 2, both on Saturday, July 11.
