Batman has been many things over the years. He's been the campy hero seen in the Adam West version of the character. He's been the dark, brooding vigilante. He's been the ultimate detective, the perfect crime fighter. He's been a mentor, a father and a lover. Heck, he's even been a caveman, a pirate and a Puritan after being flung back to the beginning of time by Darkseid. Currently, in his solo series, he's a giant anime-inspired robot piloted by Jim Gordon.

In Justice League #42, Batman (specifically Bruce Wayne) adds yet another bullet point to his character resume, and it is by far the most insane one yet.

Spoilers below!

Turn back now if you don't want Justice League #42 spoiled!

This is your final warning!

What could possibly be more zany than Batman being flung to the beginning of time and fighting his way back?

How about becoming a god?

That's exactly what happens in the latest issue of Justice League. Wonder Woman uses her golden lasso to rip Metron off the Mobius chair. The Mobius Chair is a magical seat that has all the answers to the universe. It's the source of Metron's power. Once Metron is off his seat, the chair attempts to teleport away — but not before Batman takes the chair for himself and ascends to godhood.

Naturally, one of his first questions to the chair is something that comic fans have long speculated and theorized about: who is the Joker? What is his real name? Who was he before he became the Clown Prince of Crime and Batman's ultimate foe? Batman asks and the chair answers...

But readers don't get to the truth. Batman's reaction to the revelation is one of shock. He says it can't be possible. Wonder Woman asks Batman if he is okay. He says of course, before the book ends with this image:

Talk about a cliffhanger. Readers will have to wait and see what the Joker's real identity is (if it's ever revealed) — but in the meantime, Batman will no doubt enjoy having the answers of the universe at his fingertips. He looks pretty darn smug sitting on that chair. He likely won't be eager to give it up anytime soon.
