The Minions may be capturing hearts everywhere for being adorable but they'll probably get even more fans now that they've actually saved a life.

A 5-year-old girl in Colorado Springs was playing in her room when she fell out of the window of their third-story apartment. She was just in her bedroom one minute and the next she was out on the street below. The girl is fine though, albeit with a broken arm, because she held on tight to a toy as she fell.

The toy, it turns out, was a stuffed Minion. It cushioned the girl's fall so her injuries were limited.

She has been brought to the hospital, treated and released. The authorities declared the incident as accidental.

According to Lieutenant Catherine Buckley of the Colorado Springs Police Department, this is the fifth time that a child has fallen out of an open window since May in the city.

"Thankfully, none of the injuries have been serious, but people should make sure to have an adequate screen or some other way to block a child from open windows," she said.

Minions became popular after appearing in the animated hit "Despicable Me." They continued to be part of the cast of the film's sequel and now have a movie of their own currently showing in cinemas.

"Minions" is a prequel to "Despicable Me" and tells the story of Bob, Kevin and Stuart. It has gone on to make $115.2 million in last weekend's box office, giving it the distinction of having the second-largest opening for a North American animated movie. The top spot is still held by "Shrek the Third," which raked in $121.6 million in 2007.

The Minions also lately made the news but not in the same positive light as saving a little girl's life. It was concerning the Happy Meal Minion toys that McDonald's released earlier in the month, which some customers said were uttering obscenities when activated. The fast-food chain denied that the Minion toys are saying anything profane or offensive and so will not stop offering the toys.
