Images showing the design features of the upcoming Mi 5 flagship have recently been spotted on the web. If the leaked images are authentic, then the upcoming device from Xiaomi will be bezel-free and have an edge-to-edge display measuring five inches, a pair of speakers found at the bottom and a trio of capacitive buttons below the display.

A number of rumors have already been said about the upcoming flagship. Some claim that the device is launching in August, while there are those who believe that it won't hit stores until November. The same thing is true with the Mi 5 Plus, although it is likely that this version might launch right after the upcoming Mi 5.

The leaked images were reportedly seen on the Chinese website Mobile-Dad. From the looks of it, the new Mi version seems sleeker and free of any bezel on the sides. It also gives the impression of having black bars on the sides, which suggests that the device may have an edge-to-edge display.

The soon-to-be-announced handset is expected to boast a 5-inch Quad HD display, a Snapdragon 810 CPU and a RAM of 4GB. Other purported features include a rear camera of either 16 or 20MP, a metal build and a fingerprint scanner, which should be nestled on the handset's rear panel.

The new Mi 5 will replace the older Mi 4 and is expected to undercut the competition as far as pricing is concerned. This is because the next flagship will reportedly have a price point that is as low as 1999 Yuan (around $320).

In terms of design, the new Mi 5 resembles the Mi Note phablet, although it doesn't show signs of sporting any bezels on the sides. In terms of specs, Xiaomi's upcoming flagship is comparable to the OnePlus 2, albeit with a smaller form factor.

If Xiaomi decides, however, to compete with OnePlus this year, it may therefore be safe to assume that the Mi 5 should at least have a 3,300mAh battery and a rear camera with the so-called phase detection autofocus (PDAF) for an impressively super fast focus.

There's no word yet on the exact date the handset will be announced. If Xiaomi will repeat history, then the date to watch out for could be Aug. 16, which is seen as the usual date when the company unveils new products, promotions and more.
