The cast of Game of Thrones' upcoming season 6 is slowly taking shape, and we now have certainty that a truly legendary actor will be part of it: Max von Sydow, the Hollywood icon who has been in the biz for possibly longer than you have been in this world.

The actor who etched himself onto our memories forever with his performance in The Exorcist, among many other films, shows no signs of slowing down. Starring in the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens wasn't enough of a challenge. We will also get to witness his talent as the Three-Eyed Raven in Game of Thrones' 6th season next spring.

You will remember the Three-Eyed Raven from the appearance he originally made in season 4's finale. Struan Rodger played the enigmatic tutor of Bran Stark then. Old school actor and two-time Academy Award nominee von Sydow does seem a perfect fit for the role of the wise, mystery-shrouded mentor.

The 86-year-old Swedish-French actor has been starring in movies since the 1950s and has been a Hollywood household name since the 1960s. You could say this man has seen it all—the best starting point to convincingly portray the Three-Eyed Raven.

Bran Stark will continue his training under the tutelage of this masterful Three-Eyed Raven. Let's see what exciting skills Bran will learn and how that will influence the further development of the HBO show's storyline. Warging, the ability to inhabit animals' bodies, will be one of those exciting supernatural skills. According to reports, von Sydow's Three-Eyed Raven will not have a lot of airtime, but what he has will be of significance.

Season 6 of Game of Thrones is set to start next spring and encompass 10 episodes. In all likelihood, there will be two more seasons after it.

Apart from Max von Sydow, Ian McShane, known from Deadwood, has been confirmed to be on the season 6 cast as well, although we don't know yet what his role will be. Other cast revelations are bound to come soon. Watch this space!
