After years of waiting, it's almost time: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is just a few weeks. For fans fo the franchise, it's been an agonizingly long wait - thankfully, it's almost over.

However, unlike many other games, fans really don't have much of an idea on what MGSV is really about. Yes, everyone knows that Snake is out for revenge, he's got a new robotic arm and there's going to be a lot of blood, but otherwise...not much is really known about the story. It's a far better alternative to spoiling the entire thing through trailers, but even so, most people would expect to know more about such a big game.

If you were hoping that the GamesCom 2015 would clear things up, then we have bad news for you. Just after the E3 2015 trailer made it seem as if Snake was cozying up to the game's main villain, the latest teaser throws all of that away. It begs the question: just who is Snake really fighting?

To be honest, much of the trailer's dialogue and footage is cut from footage that fans have previously seen. That's not to say that there's nothing new, but a lot of the dialogue has been taken from older demos (most notably the E3 2013 version) and re-purposed here.

The trailer's biggest reveal is a seemingly new area: previously, fans were shown gigantic, barren deserts and lush, forested jungles. While said deserts and jungles are still present in the GamesCom 2015 trailer, much of the video focuses on a huge mansion, and it's easily the most 'civilized' environment fans have seen yet. Enemy soldiers have also gotten a big upgrade, as Snake is shown battling against fully-armored opponents throughout the trailer.

As an added bonus, the 'Man on Fire' and the new Psycho Mantis also return...mostly because there's nothing cooler than slow-motion pyrotechnics.

So, what have fans learned from the GamesCom 2015 trailer? As usual, not much - while Skull Face definitely plays the part of the villain here, we've also seen him in a much less threatening role. The Man on Fire and the Psycho Mantis stand-in also play a larger part, but nothing is actually revealed - again, at this point, that's to be expected.

As with every other Metal Gear Solid game, it looks like fans will have to wait to find out exactly what's happening. At least said wait isn't much longer: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain hits store shelves on Sept. 1.
