There's no denying that Deadpool is on a hot streak right now. A lot of that is thanks to the upcoming film — seeing as the first trailer just made its way online, it's no surprise that everyone is talking about the Merc with a Mouth.
There's also his ongoing success in comics — while it's true that his death was quite a bit briefer than expected, it's great to see Deadpool back in the Marvel Universe.
And whereas Thanos may not be on the forefront of the Marvel Cinematic Universe just yet, it's impossible to forget about him: the Mad Titan has been teasing movie-goers since the first Avengers back in 2012, and with Age of Ultron behind us, it's time to look forward to Infinity Wars.
On top of all that, Thanos is also thriving on the comic side of things. You can't plan an inter-dimensional storyline about the destruction of the universe without including Thanos.
So, you've got two of Marvel's most popular characters; an obnoxious, insane, nearly indestructible mercenary and one of the most powerful beings in the universe... of course they're going to fight! And they'll do it this September in the aptly titled Deadpool vs. Thanos, written by Tim Seeley and illustrated by Elmo Bondoc.
Deadpool vs. Thanos may, however, sound like a stretch — why would these two ever even meet, let alone fight each another? The answer to that question is simple — and incredibly weird. Basically, Deadpool and Thanos are fighting over an ex-girlfriend... who just happens to be the living embodiment of Death!
"Everyone knows the story of Thanos — the man who single-handedly turned bejeweled gloves into THE deadliest fashion accessory in the entire universe. But did you know that he and Deadpool share an ex? It's true! The cosmic lady known only as Death! And when her mysterious disappearance causes everyone in the universe to stop dying — both her former flames take an interest.
If they hope to locate Death and restore balance to the cosmos - they'll need to work... together. That's not going to end well. Can the pair overcome their overwhelming hatred for one another? Or will Thanos finally let Deadpool die once and for all? Strap yourselves in and find out when DEADPOOL VS. THANOS #1 comes to comic shops and digital devices this September!"
Yes, it's about as weird as comic book stories can be — but would you really expect anything less from a crossover between Deadpool and Thanos?
Deadpool vs. Thanos #1 is scheduled for release on September 2.
