The mysterious "Lizard Man" has reportedly resurfaced at a town in South Carolina after a local resident claimed she spotted the creature as she was leaving church earlier this week.

The witness, who was only identified by her first name Sarah, said that she took a photograph of the alleged lizard man using her phone as she was stepping outside her church in Bishopville on Sunday, Aug. 2.

"My hand to God, I am not making this up," the witness wrote to a local South Carolina news network.

News about this latest Lizard Man sighting reached social media, with many people doubting the authenticity of the swamp creature.

A man on Twitter even offered a $10 bet that the mysterious reptilian creature is actually a man in a monster costume trying to scare people away similar to the ones in Scooby-Doo cartoons.

The report has also led a hunter in the area to release video footage of what appears to be the alleged humanoid lizard itself that was recorded back in May.

The hunter said that after he saw the story about the Lizard Man on the news, it gave him the courage to send the video recording to the local news agency.

The footage was taken as the hunter was hiding behind a tree, and it shows the creature stalking the Scape Ore Swamp in Bishopville.

History of the Lizard Man

According to witness accounts, the Lizard Man has often been sighted in or around the swamp. The first ever recorded sighting of the creature came in 1988, when 17-year-old boy named Christopher Davis was reportedly attacked by the humanoid lizard while trying to change the tire of his car.

While he was able to escape the Lizard Man unscathed, the boy said that the swamp creature jumped on top of his vehicle and proceeded to scratch the roof and break one of its mirrors.

In 2008, the Lizard Man resurfaced in the area, this time tearing up the hood of a minivan owned by local resident Bob Rawson.

E.J. Melvin, the sheriff of Lee County at the time, said that while people might think that it was just a joke, the damages on Rawson's vehicle would lead anyone to be believe otherwise.

The "Lizard Man" on Twitter

Another person on Twitter has introduced himself as the lizard man that people have seen over the years.

While the tweets only started on Monday, the individual behind the account seem to believe that he is indeed the mysterious creature from the swamp.
