In just over a month, Doctor Who will premiere its ninth season (since the modern relaunch), and its second with Peter Capaldi as the title character. An earlier trailer gave viewers a taste of what kinds of wild and crazy adventures the season holds, but this new one largely focuses on the Doctor dealing with his many, many enemies.

One thing's clear: our favorite Time Lord is having a lot more fun this year.

That is a good thing, especially after last season's angst-filled journeys for both him and companion Clara Oswald. This season, the Doctor is getting back to doing what he does best: saving people. Clara seems more thrilled than ever to be a part of his adventures, too.

Among the quick cuts and exciting visuals, you'll catch sight of guest star Maisie Williams in period costume, Clara nonchalantly brandishing a rocket launcher, a futuristic city that might have Gallifreyan overtones to it, plenty of Daleks — at least one of whom is hanging out with Missy (aka the Master), loads of alien monsters and the Doctor's renewed confidence, which is symbolized by his sudden affection for sunglasses.

So, what's coming in Season 9?

As the Doctor himself says, "Same old, same old. Just the Doctor and Clara Oswald in the TARDIS."

However, this is Doctor Who, so you can bet the rug will be pulled out from under you at the precise moment you least expect it.

Doctor Who returns to BBC America on Saturday, September 19, 2015.
