In conjunction with the release of the Kurt Cobain documentary movie, Montage of Heck, on DVD and Blu-Ray, the soundtrack to the movie, featuring many of Cobain's previously unreleased songs, will also hit shelves on Nov. 6.

The posthumous solo-album is a peek into the creative process of Cobain's music writing. The album has no extensive, fancy multi-tracks or post-processing work done to them, and many of the songs remain unfinished just as Cobain left them - just the track of him and his guitar making music.

Montage of Heck, the documentary which screened at the Cannes Film Festival, aired on HBO in May and received limited theatrical release in the U.S. It is the first documentary on the life of Cobain to receive the full cooperation of his family.

Work on the film first started in 2007 when Cobain's widow, Courtney Love, approached director Brett Morgen with the idea and gave him full access to the archives of music and recordings that Cobain left behind after his death.

Included in those archives are over 200 hours of recorded music on blank cassette tapes which will make up the singer's solo album 21 years after his death.

The yet unnamed LP will be the soundtrack of all the music in the film plus some additional material curated by Morgen from Cobain's archives. The dozen or so audio tracks will be "audio montages," including a yet unheard 12-minute acoustic track and a comedy sketch featuring Cobain as all of the characters.

According to Morgan, in sifting through the recordings for the film and the album, he hopes he created a lighter portrayal of Cobain which one may not expect, considering his work with Nirvana and his tragic suicide when he seemed to be at his peak.

"You really get a sense of how happy he was simply by creating himself. His lyrics are really playful, and, at times, you can feel his smile and warmth coming through." says Morgen in an exclusive with Billboard.
