AT&T and Samsung have officially launched the Galaxy S5 Active. The smartphone can now be purchased for $199.99 when signing a new two-year contract.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 Active was one of Samsung's worst kept secrets. The handset appeared in the form of leaked images, specs and was even the star of a very detailed hands on video. The video also revealed AT&T would once again offer a more tough and rugged version of Samsung's current flagship smartphone.

Just like last year's Galaxy S4 Active, the S5 Active is exclusive to AT&T.

"Samsung Galaxy S 5 Active is built to handle the wear and tear of an active lifestyle, while still maintaining the level of performance customers expect from a premium smartphone," said Jeff Bradley, senior VP,  Devices, AT&T. "Now you can enjoy the outdoors with a durable, premium smartphone on the nation's most reliable 4G LTE network."

The AT&T Samsung Galaxy S5 Active features a 5.1-inch 1920 x 1080 Full HD Super AMOLED display and runs the latest version of Android 4.4.2 KitKat and an updated version of Samsung's TouchWiz user interface. It's powered by a 2.5 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, Adreno 330 GPU (graphics processing unit) and 2GB of RAM.

The S5 Active ships with a high-end 16-megapixel rear camera that is capable of recording 3840 x 2160 (4K) video at 30 fps and a front-facing 2-megapixel camera for video chat and selfiies. The smartphone includes 16GB of internal storage and a microSD expansion slot that will support up to 128GB microSD cards to further increase its storage. Its 2800 mAg will provide up to 29 hours of talk time and up to 20 days of standby time.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 Active was designed with the outdoors in mind and is IP67 dustproof, shock and water-resistant. It also has a convenience key located on its side that will automatically launch all of its outdoors activity related features and applications in Activity Zone, which shows you all of the information in one application screen.

The AT&T Samsung Galaxy S5 Active is available online and in retail stores in choice of Camo Green, Titanium Gray, and Ruby Red.
