Harmonix now offers pricing details for the Rock Band 4 standalone versions for the PlayStation 4 (PS4) and Xbox One, with the latter costing $20 more.
While the PS4 Rock Band 4 standalone version costs $60, fans on Xbox One will have to shell out an additional $20, as the standalone version of the game for Microsoft's console goes up to $80.
As developer Harmonix explains, the price difference is due to an additional wireless adapter that's necessary for the game to work on the Xbox One. When it made the transition from its Xbox 360 console to the newer Xbox One, Microsoft also changed the wireless protocol of its controllers, which is why the aforementioned adapter is now necessary.
PlayStation 4 users don't have the same hurdles, as the console doesn't require any additional adapter. Legacy instruments work automatically for PS4 users, without needing additional hardware of any kind. Consequently, the standalone version of the game for the PS4 is just $60.
"The adapter supports up to four wireless Rock Band controllers simultaneously as well as many third party wireless instrument controllers for the Xbox 360," explains Harmonix. "In addition, Rock Band 4 for the PlayStation®4 ($59.99 SRP) supports most legacy Rock Band and third party wireless guitars and drums with no additional hardware."
Mad Catz, the publisher of the game and manufacturing peripherals, has already kicked off pre-orders on its website. Here are the options and pricing details:
