It has been over a decade since it first launched on Xbox 360 and now, Gears of War is primed and ready to make a stunning return with Gears of War: Ultimate Edition and Dishonored: Definitive Edition available for the first time on Xbox One.

And fans are saying that the new release for Gears of War are not simply ports of the 20-year-old shooter. The game has not only been remastered but graphics and gameplay have been fine-tuned and made smoother.

Even veteran gamer Paul Thurrott of Thurrott News and Analysts for Tech Enthusiasts, writes that the replayability and nostalgia of the games cannot be beaten.

"I was worried about replay value – after all, the Gears of War titles got less and less interesting as the series trudged forward over four games so far – but returning to the beginning has been eye-opening. It's not hard to recall why I was so smitten by this game. It still works," he says.

Preorders are being accepted now on the Gears of War site. Digital editions of the game became playable at 12:01 a.m. on Aug. 25. And as a bonus for players who want to get in on the deal early, they also get the Adam Fenix multiplayer character for free with their purchase of the game.

Multiplayer is one of the best features of Gears of War, according to many gamers. Although you can easily find other players online with the required Xbox Live Gold membership to use the feature, it is best played, according to Thurrott, with a group of friends in the same room with the lights turned off for a truly intense Ultimate and Definitive Gears of War experience.

Both Gears of War: Ultimate Edition and Dishonored: Definitive Edition will retail for around $40.
