If Mark Ruffalo's turn as Bruce Banner/The Hulk was one of your favorite parts of both Avengers and Age of Ultron — and his absence in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War has given you the case of the blues — prepare to be disappointed all over again. According to Ruffalo, Hulk was originally written into Civil War, and then removed for mysterious reasons.

In a roundtable interview at the Venice Film Festival, the Italian site BadTaste.it asked why the Hulk was absent from the usual Avengers lineup, featuring Robert Downey, Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Evans (Captain America), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye) and the rest; his answer proved to be cryptic and somewhat murky:

"The reason is too great to be revealed in this movie (Civil War)," said Ruffalo. "I was in the script but then they removed my character. They don't want to reveal where is he and why. I don't even know if Hulk will be back soon."

Captain America: Civil War will be directed by Anthony and Joe Russo (Captain America: The Winter Soldier). Here is the official synopsis:

"Captain America: Civil War picks up where Avengers: Age of Ultron left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.

According to the IMDB page for the movie, Civil War will also include "an incident [that] leads to the Avengers developing a schism over how to deal with situations, which escalates into an open fight between allies Iron Man and Captain America."
