The BeoPlay A6 looks comfortable — like you'd want to just crawl up into it and fall asleep. It's economic and covered in a soft designer fabric from a Danish design studio that would probably be a pleasant place to rest one's head if it were not a $1,000 speaker.

The strange-looking speaker sports a convex curve designed to fill a room with sound. We can't really speak about that, seeing as how the room we encountered it in was a cavernous hall filled with noisy souls at IFA, but we did use the opportunity to stand directly in front of the thing to experience its full-bodied sound production.

Indeed, we liked what we heard courtesy of the two 60-watt 5.5-inch woofers, two 30-watt 0.75-inch tweeters and standalone 60-watt 1.5-inch speaker.

The speaker also sports a skinny touch-sensitive panel up top, designed to be swiped in to change tracks, adjust volume and the like. There's also a manual switch on the back of the speaker designed to adjust sound output based on the speaker's position in a room.
