It's a red-letter day for fans of the dystopian sci-fi show Black Mirror: the British episodic anthology drama – which creator Charlie Brooker has directly compared to The Twilight Zone – will get an additional season on Netflix for your binge-watching pleasure.

While Black Mirror, which originally premiered in December 2011 on the U.K. network Channel 4, was initially only known to British viewers, it slowly gained popularity with American audiences as past seasons became available on the video streaming service in 2014.

As The Independent points out, what makes Netflix's acquisition inherently different from other shows Netflix has taken under its wing is its current ratings status. While the consistent narrative for shows like the long-cancelled, newly resurrected Arrested Development has been of the "saved from the scrap yard" variety, Black Mirror is a big-hitter among viewers.

Another rarity of the deal is that despite the popularity of the original show, an American remake is currently in the works. That could mean that both the U.K. and U.S. versions would be simultaneously available for Stateside viewers — rather than faring like the original version of The Office, which had long concluded its run before Greg Daniels got his hands on the rights for a Yankee remake.
