Smartphone speakers are getting better and better, but sometimes, they're just not powerful enough to offer enough volume, especially during things like parties. In these cases, people often need to either get one large speaker or a few smaller ones, both resulting in the spending of a few hundred dollars.

However, what if you could play a song on your phone and all your friends' phones at exactly the same time? A new app called AmpMe promises to make this happen, essentially daisy-chaining an unlimited number of smartphones so that they can all stream the same song at the same time.

The app is available on both iOS and Android, and instead of using something like Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, the app plays a kind of audio fingerprint, or a series of beeps, which gets picked up on each receiving phone. Each phone, of course, needs to have the app installed, and for now, the app only works with songs on SoundCloud, largely because of the fact that the platform is free. Founder Martin-Luc Archambault, however, says that the team is working to pen deals with other streaming services.

The real challenge for the company would be to play songs without any latency between phones, and according to demonstrations, it seems as though it has achieved that.

Of course, simply adding more volume to the music being played doesn't mean that the actual quality of the audio will be better. Smartphones generally don't have the best speakers, but as time goes on, it is likely that smartphone speakers will continue to get better.

You can download the app for yourself from the App Store or Google Play.
