Perfect fit! Two handy workout tools are collaborating to take fitness technology to the next level.

Runtastic, an app that measures the number of miles run, will now send its data to Jawbone, which tracks the amount of calories burned during a workout.

Runtastic measures a person's runs, bicycle rides and other fitness and sports activities. Running goals may be set in the app. Originally a smartphone app, Runtastic now has a line of watches. The fitness technology was bought by Adidas for $245 million.

Jawbone claims to be the world leader in consumer technology and wearable devices, building hardware products and software platforms powered by data science. The brand has a line of elegant wristbands with a heart health monitor and other innovative features. The wearables come in well-chosen colors.

UP by Jawbone is an application that uses sensors to track how someone moves and sleeps. Users can also use the app to monitor their diet; UP basically measures physical activity versus calories. It has a smart coach function which delivers personalized tips and well-timed reminders to help users make better food and workout choices.

Jawbone also cultivates a community of fitness enthusiasts and encourages people to make exercise a social activity, as support groups were proven to increase fitness success.

The brand is committed to making a healthy lifestyle more achievable by developing gadgets that can make exercise routines and calorie monitoring smarter and more convenient. The brand says they understand that keeping in shape can be tiring and demanding in the long run.

"The Runtastic community can now easily share their activity and progress in the UP app, which will then give further personalized insights and guidance - such as staying hydrated post-workout, or matching last week's achievements," said Travis Bogard, vice president of product management and strategy at Jawbone.

Since Runtastic is now owned by Adidas, some Jawbone and Runtastic fans are wondering if other Adidas wearables will feature Jawbone apps in the future.
