Announced today at TwitchCon, a dedicated Twitch viewing app is finally coming to Sony's modern PlayStation consoles.

The app will allow users on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and even the PlayStation Vita to tune in and watch any stream with full chat support. While Twitch streaming has been a key part of the PlayStation 4 with its "Live From PlayStation" function built into the "Share Button," it only allows for PlayStation 4 users to watch live gameplay sessions of other PlayStation 4 owners.

This new dedicated viewing app will break down that barrier and allow those playing on PlayStation to keep up with their favorite streamers who just so happen to be playing on PC or Xbox One.

The announcement that the Twitch app will also arrive on the Vita marks a first for the company as well. Twitch has yet to appear on a handheld console (though it can be used on mobile devices).

A number of other announcements have come out of Twitch's first convention, including the announcement of a new playlist system that will rotate through archived videos when a channel is offline, the ability to upload pre-editing video for the first time in the company's history, an improved "whisper" system and the platform's switch from Flash to HTML 5.

Twitch continues to be the go-to place for video game streaming, even if YouTube is attempting to slice out a piece of the market for itself.
