Roku just upped the ante.

On Tuesday morning, Oct. 6, Roku announced its highly anticipated Roku 4 streaming player, compatible with both 4K Ultra HD (UHD) and HD TVs. Touted as its "best streaming player ever," the Roku 4 is available for a preorder price of $129.99 with its expected ship date being Oct. 21.

Boasting powerful streaming and stunning resolution—in addition to the 2,500-plus on-demand channels and 300,000-plus movies and TV episodes offered in previous units—the Roku 4 runs on the new Roku OS 7, which is powered by a quad-Core processor, offering up to 60 frames per second of 4K streaming. Already offering 4K access to Netflix, M-Go, Amazon Instant Video, ToonGoogles, Vudu and YouTube, the Roku 4 also includes a curated 4K Spotlight channel, which funnels in more content to its users.

Other additions include a new Remote Finder feature and the ability for users to follow actors, directors, movies and television shows for automatic updates about new content. Those who travel can also use Roku OS 7's new Hotel and Dorm Connect feature for quicker wireless connectivity.

"The Roku 4 is our best streaming player ever," Anthony Wood, Roku's founder and CEO, said in a press release statement. "It provides an amazing 4K experience with powerful performance and brilliant picture, at up to 60 frames per second on 4K TVs, and access to the most streaming channels with 4K entertainment, plus innovative features like Remote Finder. Powered by the new Roku OS 7, the Roku 4 gives consumers a new era of streaming performance and control over their entertainment."
