While just recently revived for TV, Danger Mouse is wasting no time heading for the big screen, with Sony Pictures Animation and Studio Canal teaming up to make that into a reality.

It is unclear if Brian Cosgrove will still be attached to direct but the Danger Mouse movie will see guidance from producers Neal Moritz and Toby Ascher. Moritz is well-known for his work on the Jump Street and Fast & Furious films so it's not unusual to feel some disconnect, but he is involved in a Sonic The Hedgehog project and the Goosebumps movie so Danger Mouse is not with unfamiliar company.

There are still no details as well regarding the storyline that the Danger Mouse movie will follow but the producers are now looking for someone to draft a screenplay. At the very least, the writer must be British-based so they absolutely understand what the series is about. While no concrete points have been provided, the goal of the movie is to honor the franchise while attracting a new audience.

Released by Cosgrove Hall, Danger Mouse starts out as an animated series in the early ‘80s. A secret agent, Danger Mouse channeled Danger Man and James Bond, getting involved in a slew of situations only spies will find themselves in, albeit peppered with a lot of nonsense. He lived below a pillar box along Baker Street; had a flying car; saw a sidekick in Penfold, a hamster; found his "M" in a chinchilla called Colonel K; and competed relentlessly with his arch enemy, Baron Greenback, a toad, who had a henchman named Stiletto, a crow.

Back in the day, Terry Scott and David Jason were in charge of the voices and the vibe they created were retained by the current cast. This also meant that terrible puns was still the usual fare.

Will Danger Mouse get the Hollywood treatment? Or will the spy hero remain every bit British, much like how Paddington turned out? This remains to be seen. Either way, fans must be thrilled to see Danger Mouse expanding his reach.

Danger Mouse was revived for TV with a voice cast that includes Alexander Armstrong, Stephen Fry and Kevin Eldon.
