The wait is almost over. Starting later today and going until Oct. 12, players worldwide will dive into the open beta for Star Wars Battlefront.

It's not live now, but it will be soon. As confirmed by Star Wars Battlefront community manager:

The #StarWarsBattlefront Beta will open up on Oct 8th 10 AM PST.

The beta will go live on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC (via EA's Origin service) starting at 10 a.m. PT. That translates to 1 p.m. on the East Coast, noon if you are playing in Central time and 11 a.m. for Mountain time players. If you are playing through Origin, you can go ahead and pre-download the 11 GB beta so you'll be able to play as soon as it opens up. Console gamers will have to wait for their 8 GB beta download to finish before they're able to play.

The Star Wars Battlefront beta includes three modes for players to take for a spin. The first is Walker Assault, the massive 40-player mode that tasks the Empire with escorting the massive AT-AT walkers seen in The Empire Strikes Back. It's of course up to the Rebels to stop them, but that's not going to be easy. The second multiplayer game mode players can try is Drop Zone. This mode is a King of the Hill-style game type in which each team of eight must battle for control of drop pods as they fall from the sky. Last but not least, players team up with a friend for a taste of the game's survival mode, a cooperative game type that has players fighting waves of the Empire's forces.

Just the other day, we learned of a number of additional modes that will be coming in the full version of Star Wars Battlefront. Those modes include Cargo and Droid Run. Cargo will be similar to capture the flag, while Droid Run has each team fighting for control of three droids. DICE promises multiple modes for the game's hero characters, as well as more modes that have yet to be revealed.

Star Wars Battlefront releases on Nov. 17 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. Players who preorder the game will be able to play on the new Jakku map a week ahead of its scheduled release in December, granting fans a sneak peek at the new planet that will be appearing in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
