Microsoft has good reasons to be pleased with the way Xbox One is performing. According to Larry Hryb, aka Major Nelson, the director of programming of Xbox Live, the company has sold 2 million Xbox One units within 18 days of its launch across 13 markets worldwide.

Hryb also said that Xbox One was a bestseller on Amazon.com with over 1,000 consoles being sold per minute at peak demand. This is in contrast to a recent report that rival PlayStation 4 was performing better than Xbox One on eBay.

To iron out some issues and problems that had taken away the shine from Microsoft's latest gaming console, the company has announced a software update that aims to resolve some of the issues, including some of the problems with SmartGlass.

Microsoft has also released instructions on how to update the console given that there are two options for doing this. One mode is for users who utilize the console's Instant On feature while the other mode is for users who have chosen not to use Instant On.

Instant On allows users to turn on their consoles simply by saying the words "Xbox on." These users will be able to update their consoles starting Dec. 10. According to Hryb, the new update will be downloaded while the Xbox is in low power mode. Once the console completes the download, the unit will shut down. This is an important part of the process since users will have to turn on the system from a total shut down. Since voice commands will not be available during this time, Instant On users may be a bit concerned.

According to Hryb, "When you turn the console on you'll see the update being applied. After that, you Xbox One will reboot. You'll know the update is installing when you see the Xbox logo on the green background. This can take anywhere from 2-5 minutes. Once the update has finished installing, you'll boot to the home screen and you're all set."

The update will allow users to enjoy several performance boosts. In addition to this, the update is also expected to address certain problems with SmartGlass before and after going into standby mode. Other fixes include resolutions for problems during multiplayer games as well as WiFi and notification issues. Improvements to the Dashboard, TV, and updating services have also been included in the update.

Users who are not using the Instant On feature will be able to download the update starting Dec. 12. Microsoft is also planning to release a number of updates for the coming year in an effort to constantly improve the performance of the Xbox One.
