Wearable buffs have a new smartwatch they can look forward to thanks to Verizon Wireless.

The carrier has quietly revealed that it will launch its own smartwatch dubbed the Wear24, which will be powered by the latest Android Wear 2.0.

The network operator announced the Wear24 when sharing the availability of the LG Watch Sport.

"Two new LTE connected smartwatches with the latest software from Google, Android Wear 2.0, will soon be available at Verizon: LG Watch Sport and the exclusive Wear24 smartwatch," noted the carrier.

Features Of The Wear24

Verizon reveals that the Wear24 will also run on the latest Android Wear 2.0, which will allow users to make calls, send texts and listen to music using the smartwatch even when they do not have their smartphone with them.

The Wear24 would be linked to the user's phone number so that any calls or texts received on their handset will simultaneously be received by the watch as well.

The device will boast a 1.39-inch AMOLED display and a 450 mAh battery. The smartwatch will be just 0.14 inch thick.

The Verizon smartwatch comes with 4G LTE support as well so users will not encounter any connectivity issues.

A variety of watch faces which will be interactive and can be changed by the users at any time will be available at launch.

"It lets you set a modern look for the office and a social look for the home," notes Verizon.

The Wear24 is also water resistant and will be able withstand being submerged in up to a depth of one meter for 30 minutes.

An NFC chip will also be included in the Wear24, which means that users will be able to deploy Android Pay for mobile payments.

Price And Availability

The Verizon Wear24 sport a price tag of $299 per the carrier and will come with a two-year activation plan. It will be available via online retailers and from Verizon stores across the country from March.

LG Watch Sport Or Wear24

The LG Watch Sport will be available in a few days and has specs which are similar to Verizon's Wear24. It too will run in Android Wear 2.0 and will feature support for 4G LTE networks. Android Pay can be used through it while at the same time the smartwatch will allow users to take calls and reply to texts which they receive.

What may tilt the scales in Wear24's favor is its cheaper pricing as the LG offering will set consumers back by $329. However, the LG Watch Sport will become available for preorder from Feb 10 itself on Verizon. Therefore, those who do not wish to wait may opt for the LG smartwatch instead.
