Capcom is releasing a special edition of the Nintendo Switch in Japan, to complement to Monster Hunter XX Switch release.

While the whole Switch device won't be covered in different colors or feature printed skins, the dock itself will. It won't come in a different color, to be clear, but will instead feature patterns, symbols, and markings associated with Monster Hunter XX. That might be enough visual oomph for some fans to purchase the exclusive.

Nintendo Switch 'Monster Hunter XX' Bundle

The console even comes with a copy of Monster Hunter XX, and the whole bundle retails for 39,182 yen, or about $352. Neither Capcom nor Nintendo has made any announcement about a possible international release, so it appears the console is only Japanese exclusive for now. That said, the Switch is region-free, so interested customers outside of Japan may still get the bundle.

Even if you're interested in getting it, the Switch Monster Hunter XX Edition has sold out just within minutes of availability on Capcom's online store. One can only imagine how these consoles will go for once scalpers try to sell them on eBay.

It's no surprise the console sold out that quick — the Monster Hunter series is wildly popular in Japan. Keep in mind that Monster Hunter XX isn't even a brand-new game, just a graphically enhanced version of the 3DS game. The fact that the Switch features HD visuals and is portable might have helped preorders to sell out that rapidly.

Monster Hunter XX Limited Edition

In addition to the limited edition Switch, Capcom and Nintendo also revealed the Monster Hunter XX limited edition, which includes a production booklet, a keychain, a poster, a special carrying case, a soundtrack CD, and a copy of Monster Hunter XX. It's a pretty attractive collection for any diehard Monster Hunter fan, and it's easy to imagine that like the special Switch edition, this won't last long, too.

Monster Hunter XX

At present, neither Nintendo nor Capcom has confirmed if Monster Hunter XX will have a U.S. release, although that's likely on the cards. However, Monster Hunter XX for the 3DS has been out in Japan since March, and the game has yet to roll out in the West.

That said, given the Switch's still-growing install base and still-slim lineup of games, it's easy to imagine that players are on the prowl for any game they could play on the console, and Monster Hunter is a big deal, so it'll likely be made available stateside. Expect due coverage when we hear more, of course.

With regard to the bundle, this is only the second time the Switch will come in a special edition after the Splatoon 2 bundle, which is also only available in Japan. Nintendo has yet to announce whether it'll release different Switch colors in the future, similar to the 3DS line.
