Nintendo's next made-for-smartphones game after Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp is an RPG titled Dragalia Lost, co-developed and designed by Japanese studio Cygames.

Nintendo describes the forthcoming title as an "all-new original action RPG application" coming exclusively to mobile devices.

Nintendo Will Release A New RPG Game For Mobile

Despite its flukes in the smartphone landscape — Miitomo being the clearest example, which sizzled and eventually descended into abandon — it seems Nintendo isn't anywhere near finished with its plans for mobile. After all, a Legend of Zelda title is still in the works. More than anything, though, Dragalia Lost comes as a surprise, given that there was no previous indication that Nintendo was working on this title.

The game will be released this summer in Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau, Nintendo confirmed. It will also launch in North America and Europe later on.

Cygames, designer for Dragalia Lost, is responsible for games such as Granblue Fantasy, Shadowverse, and Princess Connect, all of which are RPGs. Shadowverse, it should be noted, is a digital card game. It's not clear whether elements from these games will be adapted into Dragalia Lost in some form or another, but that's a likely possibility, considering it's also an RPG.

"Nintendo has been co-developing and will jointly operate the game with Cygames, bringing to life the shared vision of a new gaming experience with worldwide appeal," said Nintendo.

Details about the game remain thin, if not nonexistent. But the first official image features what's presumably the cast of characters that populate its world. Gleaning from their costumes, the game might have fantasy elements. Combat will definitely be a core part of the game if the sword-wielding male character on the front is anything to go by, not to mention the female character equipped with a slick-looking lance.

Nintendo will share more details about Dragalia Lost over the next few weeks. Perhaps it'll be included in an upcoming Nintendo Direct presentation. E3, the biggest gaming event of the year, is also not too far ahead, so fans can expect some major Switch and 3DS news alongside Nintendo's plans for mobile.

Any first impressions for Dragalia Lost? Do you think Nintendo should keep on releasing games for smartphones or just stick with its hybrid machine, which is selling like hotcakes? As always, if you have anything to share, feel free to sound them off in the comments section below!
