Germany's world-famous auto manufacturer and newbie in the Electric Vehicle industry, Volkswagen, seemingly betrays Tesla with ID.4 and Model Y comparison that claims VW's EV is better and cheaper. Despite the courtesy calls, publicities, and friendly relationship with Elon Musk, Volkswagen dared to use Model Y as a comparative measure that makes ID.4 look down on Tesla's mid-sized sedan.

Germany's 'Das Auto,' famously known as Volkswagen, really is 'The Car' that revolutionizes and makes wonder. Volkswagen recently made a massive leap from internal combustion engines (ICE) to its very own modular electric drive matrix (MEB platform) for its new breed of electric vehicles.

Volkswagen recently said that its company's innovation and Tesla's who use a ground-up design for EVs, will thrive and get the best value for money in the industry. Together with this statement, VW praised Tesla for its efforts and pioneering in the electric vehicle revolution.

Another occasion where VW big boss, Hebert Diess, updated his LinkedIn post with a comment that shares his experience with Model Y to be better than its ID.3. The high-regard for Tesla came in praise from the CEO and declared its inferiority to the American auto manufacturer.

After the Tesla CEO's visit and a trip to Germany, Volkswagen and Tesla share a healthy relationship that praises and upholds each company's product. Elon Musk politely praises the ID.3 while test driving on the VW Facility and Hebert Diess test driving the Model Y, saying it to be a reference for design and performance.

ID.4 and Model Y, Who is the Superior EV?

Despite the high praises and a seeming truce that joins together VW and Tesla in electric vehicle manufacturing, a recent Reddit post in r/electricvehicles shows a brochure-type of match-up Volkswagen of the ID.4 and Model Y.

In the Reddit post, the image shows the outline of both electric vehicles with Tesla Model Y in red and Volkswagen's ID.4 in blue. Both outlines are atop each other to properly show the difference in the vehicle's length and size.

The brochure-like image compares both EVs, being more favorable to the German company's upcoming electric hatchback. The primary highlighted difference is the vehicle's length and height. Volkswagen argues that while ID.4 is 0.17cm shorter than Model Y, it offers a 6cm roomier interior.

Another point of comparison is the wheelbase and turning circle of the vehicle with the ID.4 having a 1.9m difference, making it more efficient in turns and tight maneuvers. Volkswagen's soon-to-be-released ID.4 is also "more software-centered," has established dealers and service base, and high-quality interior.

Tesla's Model Y dominates against ID.4 in some aspects, and Volkswagen admits this fact. Tesla Model Y's acceleration and charging speed is better than VW's.

The Volkswagen ID.4 will also be cheaper by a massive $11,800 difference with VW selling the car for € 49,000 ($58,000 as of Sep. 16) against the pricier Model Y priced at €58,620 ($69,444 as of Sep. 16).

There are certainly some similarities that both EVs share. Factors such as the Battery Size and Cruising Range does not differ from both vehicles. Volkswagen and Tesla's mid-sized vehicles share a 78kWh battery size and an impressive 316-mile (520 kilometers) range.

Indeed, the vehicle match-up and leaked brochure show Volkswagen's ID.4 vehicle's advantages against Tesla Model Y. The German company's new EV would soon come to the market and expects its launch during early October.

This match-up may give a comparison that will make the buyer think twice before purchasing either of the vehicles in the electric category.
