iFixit Teardowns Valve's Steam Deck

The how-to and repair parts platform, iFixit, took the opportunity to showcase what its future users could expect from the inside of the upcoming handheld PC hardware from Valve.

Although it is not the first-ever teardown of the Steam Deck out there, it is the first rodeo of the folks from iFixit to check out the internals of the gaming device.

In the teardown video that iFixit released, it blurted out high praises for the repairability of the upcoming handheld, noting that the SSD and the thumbstick of the Steam Deck are easily replaceable, according to a recent report by The Verge.

For instance, the SSD of the device only has a single screw. On the other hand, the thumbstick sports three screws, making both of them easy to remove and replace.

The Steam Deck teardown of iFixit comes a few weeks before the gaming device launches to the public starting Feb. 25.

It is interesting to point out that the release of the Steam Deck follows the recent schedule that Valve announced, saying that it would be launching on Feb. 25, whereas its shipping would begin on Feb. 28.

Steam Deck Official Replacement Parts

As per a report by PC Gamer, Valve previously promised its customers that it would be releasing its official replacement parts for the Steam Deck.

However, during that time the American video gaming firm has yet to announce where and when these parts are seeing the light of day.

This time around, Valve shed a light on where future Steam Deck users could get their genuine replacement parts once they get their hands on the handheld PC machine.

Valve announced it partnered up with iFixit to release the official replacement parts for the upcoming PC gaming console, which gives its future users an option to repair it in the comfort of their homes.

Valve said in its recent announcement that "iFixit will be one of the authorized sellers of Steam Deck replacement parts," adding that it would also be home for the replacement parts of the Valve Index VR kit.

However, when asked about specific details regarding its date of release, as well as the parts that would be available, Valve says: "We are still hammering out the details, and will be sharing more info on this soon."

PC Gamer noted in the same news story that iFixit has been the go-to store for folks who are searching for replacement parts on all sorts of gadgets out there, including the iconic Apple iPods.

Now, the upcoming handheld gaming console, Steam Deck, will also be part of that list.
