Following the recent Computex 2022, AMD has unveiled its latest Ryzen chip. The next-gen Ryzen 7000 CPU will be the first of its kind based on the 5nm process.

On top of that, this hardware will reportedly have an AM5 motherboard platform with a PCIe 5.0 and DDR5 support.

AMD Ryzen 7000 CPUs will be the first chips to be based on a 5nm process. Here's what you need to check for them.

The chipmaker has previously touted to the public the potential launch of its Ryzen 7000 chips. This time, AMD says that there will be desktop CPUs that will boast a 5.5GHz clock speed.

According to a report by The Verge on Monday, May 23, there's a noticeable difference between Zen 3 and Zen 4 architecture. More importantly, this aspect involves both their improvements and their clock speeds.

According to the company, the upcoming chips will consume more power than before. This means that the AM5 motherboards can power up the chips by up to 170W. Before, they could only do that for up to 142W.

What's more is that it's getting an RDNA 2 graphics, apart from PCIe 5 controllers and DDR5. Per Robert Hallock, the company's marketing director, each Ryzen 7000 CPU will be able to receive these features.

Although integrated graphics are now commonplace in the chip industry, specifically for AMD or Intel, not all the next-gen models have that.

Aside from this, the AM5 motherboard tier will have a PCIe 5.0 NVMe storage slot. To date, it's considered to be the standard for the said model.

Faster AMD CPU

What's more, is that the Ryzen 7000 chip is expected to be 60% faster when it comes to sequential read speed. Speaking of the motherboards, early speculations point out the possibility of having a USBC-C and 200GBps support.

We will hear more information about this product in the fall. At that time, AMD might have already unveiled what other features we could get for this new chip.

AMD Mendocino APU

Aside from dropping its new Ryzen 7000 CPU, AMD is not yet done because it has just introduced a Zen-based APU. The company says that it will launch this in late 2022, per Anandtech.

The chipmaker is now targeting the low-end market this time. The same report from Anandtech reveals that the upcoming APU will accelerate the video conferencing software in terms of encoding and decoding.

Mendocino may adapt the same support that's previously placed in Ryzen 6000 Mobile when it comes to AV1 decoding.

If you're looking for a sign to purchase a low-priced laptop that has a long-lasting battery, maybe you could luckily get short at Mendocino-powered models.

AMD projects that laptops that this APU powers can reportedly last for up to 10 hours regarding "mixed usage." It's indeed a huge boost for low-end buyers seeking a quality laptop for their needs.
