The Apple AirTags has done it again, and this time it helped in recovering specific luggage from a traveler who lost it upon their arrival at the airport, initially missing her property worth $16,000 in items. The user, fortunately, has AirTags inside her bag, and it prevented the thief from running away with it, helping law enforcement track the culprit down.

The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office brought a news release that details how an airline subcontractor was caught using an Apple AirTags tracker, with the device stowed in a luggage of a woman traveling from Denis-Forth Walton Beach Airport in Florida.

The employee, 19, was charged with two counts of grand theft for the stolen goods, with one case having $1,600 worth of items in the bag and another $15,000 stolen from a different person. After reporting the luggage stolen, the owner claimed that the AirTags was last seen active in Mary Esther, with authorities pursuing said location using a cross-referencing method of identifying airport employees in the area.

Law enforcement officials then identified Giovanni De Luca as the suspect that stole the goods, with the reported missing items still present in his home.

Airport Theft is Massive, Is Using AirTags Worth it for Security?

However, the initial bag that had the AirTags found by De Luca was not retrieved, something the thief previously discovered after going through the luggage.

According to USA Today, a massive case of theft in airports is already a significant problem in the present. One of the only ways to protect one's possessions is to use trackers to keep tabs on them, allowing people to track them and know their location at all times.

Luggages with AirTags have a chance of recovery compared to those which does not have it, and it may be a good investment for security purposes in the future.

AirTags and their Tracking Technology

The Apple AirTags debuted in 2021 for the world to use, and it gives the user a chance to keep tabs on their property that does not have any electronic or internet connections that could emit signals for tracking. It helps in securing things even though it cannot produce any known signals for modern devices to detect.

Since its release, multiple cases of stolen goods have been returned to their owners as they installed AirTags on them and kept it hidden from the naked eye. The good thing is that AirTags are inconspicuous when put inside or with certain user items, as long as they are not set on someone else's property for stalking purposes.

Apple also introduced a way to protect against the AirTags called the "Anti-Stalking" feature, which aims to help those who unknowingly have another person's tracker in their person.

People who purchase AirTags worth $29 each, and $99 for a package of four trackers, see a massive return on their investment for those who faced or experienced theft from different cases. Some recovered cars, bags, luggage, and other items that were misplaced or stolen, demonstrating the tracker's effectiveness for all needs.
