Apple employees want the Cupertino giant to refrain from implementing its return-to-office plans for them. In order to make this happen, the advocacy group petitioned the company to promote flexible work instead of the three-day in-person setup.

A group of Apple employees is protesting against the company's return-to-office plans.

Last week, the tech firm announced that the employees would have a new mandate to follow in the next few weeks. According to an early report, the new deadline for the staff to return to the physical workplace will kick off next month.

Financial Times initially reported that many Apple workers have been pushing back the company's plans for a return to the office.

Instead of promoting innovative ways for "location flexible work," the company wants to launch its plan to require the employees to work in person.

However, the employees appear to be "unhappy" with this announcement. That's why Apple Together, a group of Apple workers, aimed for a change.

Currently, the group is collecting signatures from other employees to sign the petition.

However, Engadget reported that Apple CEO Tim Cook has a different say about the issue. According to him, the company just wants to treasure the "in-person collaboration that is so essential" to the work culture.

"Apple Together counters that a "uniform mandate from senior leadership" fails to respect the "many compelling reasons" why some employees are "happier and more productive" working outside of traditional office arrangements," the petition reads.

Additionally, the petition says that the employees are demanding the company stick to more flexibility by letting the workers work with the "immediate manager." The reason why the group wanted this is because they could have the freedom to negotiate their "working arrangements."

Apple Together mentioned that the decision should not rely on "high-level approvals" and "complex procedures." It should also be capable of providing information to the workers.

The return-to-office plans, including a three-day workweek, will begin on Sept. 5.

Moreover, the advocacy group also wants the firm to allow the workers to be comfortable so they could "think different" together.

COVID-19 Spread Might be a Concern Among Apple Workers

In a Macrumors forum about the protest launched by employees against Apple, many people in the thread have mixed feelings about this issue.

One commenter said that the Apple workers should be thankful because the iPhone maker has given them the privilege to work only three times per week. He urged those who dislike this setup should resign from the company.

Another person wrote that people have been complaining because of the surging COVID-19 cases yet again. Although working for three days is a good deal, workers feared that infections might spread in the company.

Having said that, working at home is still an ideal way to end this issue. The commenter added that arranging Zoom meetings will be much better than scheduling a physical meeting.
