Employees work at the assembly line of the Volkswagen (VW) ID 4 electric car of German carmaker Volkswagen, in the production site of Emden, northern Germany on May 20, 2022.

Originally, ID.Aero was presented in China and is reported to have a 700km range on the WLTP standard. Now, with its latest MEB model, the automaker improves its previous ID models with a new display concept, an Augmented Reality (AR) heads-up display, a 15-inch screen, digitally controlled air vents, and illuminated touch sliders.

The ID.AERO

Now, the ID.AERO is one of ten new Electric Vehicles (EVs) the company plans to launch by 2026 as part of its move to make its whole lineup electric.

VW will show a sneak peek of the next model at the CES 2023 in Las Vegas, which will also mark its first appearance after six years. The sedan will have a long-range capability that is built on the MEB platform. Additionally, what makes it unique is its special camouflage that creates electroluminescent light effects.

The ID.7 is their next global electric vehicle and will be offered on three continents. Its world premiere is scheduled for the second quarter of this year.

Earlier reports said that a version of the VW ID.AERO concept will go into production for the Chinese market in the second half of this year. The concept is aimed at China's fastest-growing segment, where it targets young, first-time car buyers.

Hence, the ID.AERO is sporty with a wide body and a coupe-style rear three-quarter design. It also features high-end headlights, LED taillight clusters, and a high-gloss black roof for that luxury feel.

The ID.AERO is a demonstration of the company's flexible architecture to build EVs across its portfolio of brands. It can be adapted for a range of vehicles.

Electric Vehicles on the Rise

ID.Aero has a high-performance electric drive system, which is built around the MEB (Modular Electric Drive Kit), which is the electrification platform. MEB is the all-new, purpose-built electric drive architecture from Volkswagen, and is being used for all its future electric cars. The platform consists of two electric motors for a four-wheel drive system and can support 800 volts, 150kW power output.

At the same time, Volkswagen is hoping to increase its electric car sales to a million units by 2025.

VW's electric car push comes at a time when the world is pushing to curb climate-warming carbon dioxide pollution and move to renewable energy sources. At the same time, China's sales of EVs are expected to be strong in the next two years.
