Vinyl records were able to outsell CDs in the United Kingdom.

A turntable spins in a record shop October 7, 2003 in London. Falling sales of CD's and the imminent relaunch of online music swapshop 'Napster' have forced retailers to slash their prices.

This detail was revealed by the latest sales report of the Digital Entertainment and Retail Association (ERA). 

ERA revealed how the sales of the entertainment industry in the United Kingdom fared in 2022. 

Although the physical sales of the music sector fell by almost 4%, vinyl records were still able to sustain their growth. 

Vinyl Outselling CDs in the UK! 

According to Bloomberg's latest report, it is the first time since 1987 that U.K. residents spent more on vinyl records than CDs.

"Vinyl album sales grew 11% to £150.5m ($182.74 million), while CD album sales fell 17.4% to £124m ($150 million), the first time vinyl outsold CD by value since 1987," said ERA via its official sales report. 

ERA CEO Kim Bayley said that vinyl records experienced sales increases because of the efforts made by physical retailers.

Bayley added that although musicians need to compose great music or songs, better buying and consumption experiences are still the main factor that persuades consumers to spend their money on the music industry.
