A Windows copy issue is getting on the nerves of some users who just want to save their files. Microsoft earlier acknowledged the problem and confirmed that the 32-bit apps are the reason why it's happening in the first place.
Issue in Copying and Saving Files on Windows
Microsoft detects that a Windows copy issue is affecting the most popular builds, including Windows 11 and Windows 10.
There are times that you want to copy a file, but unfortunately, it does not push through. You check if the current Windows version is updated, but it seems that it's not the problem.
According to a report by Neowin, Microsoft says that the issue affects a wide range of Windows versions that use 32-bit apps. Fortunately, File Explorer users won't encounter the same problem.
If you're using either Word or Excel, it could be disappointing to see that your work can't be saved. If that's the case, you might as well want to unsave your document and hope that you can still use it the next time you open a Windows program.
The Redmond giant says that the current issue has been inflicting some damage to both businesses and consumers who rely on Windows devices.
"You might have intermittent issues saving, or copying, or attaching files using 32-bit apps which are large address aware and using the CopyFile API," the company said on a support page, per TechRadar.
Affected Windows OS of Copy Issue
As per GHacks, the new Windows copy issue has affected the following Windows operating systems. Check if your current OS is included in the list.
- Windows 11 version 22H2
- Windows 11 version 21H2
- Windows 10 version 22H2
- Windows 10 version 22H1
In fact, the 32-bit apps are not the only ones affected by this existing problem. Microsoft adds that office applications are undergoing the same issue. Some users said that they encountered a "document not saved" error.

How to Fix 'Saving or Copying Not Working' on Windows
If you think that your latest Windows OS does not allow you to save or copy your files, Microsoft suggests a simple workaround you can do.
The software maker says that repeating the operation can solve the problem. It's a tedious process, but it's the only known solution at the moment.
For the next update, we expect Microsoft to address this issue and implement a full fix for the Windows copy issues.
For Windows 10 users, if you're familiar with the Known Issue Rollback, you can resolve this problem. To get started, find the special Group Policy in Computer Configuration. Then, access Administrative Templates and tap the Name of Special Group Policy.
It should be noted that this only works on Windows 10, so if you have Windows 11, this might not work on your end.
In another related report, Microsoft rolled out a KB5026436 preview update to get rid of the SMB file copy issue on Windows 11 21H2.
