The sudden boom of artificial intelligence (AI) has resulted in announcements from different tech companies on what they plan to do regarding this technology. Apple is among these firms, and more details about the company's AI were revealed during its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2023 on Monday.

Apple Is Taking a Different Approach Unlike Microsoft or Google Regarding AI Integration

According to CNBC, Apple revealed how much it is working on AI and machine learning advancements for its devices. However, the company is reportedly taking a different approach than Microsoft and Google, which are competing in trying to integrate generative AI into search and other products.

Apple did announce at the WWDC event that it would be adding better AI features instead. According to Innovation Originals, these include enhancing the features already present in its ecosystem, like better autocorrection for the iPhone keyboard with the help of AI and machine learning technologies.

The machine learning program reportedly used a "transformer language model," which means its AI model utilizes the transformer architecture that powered recent generative AI innovations like the ChatGPT. Apple's latest keyboard design will support sentence-level correction, with the ability to learn users' typing habits, like frequently typed phrases and even misspellings.

Apple Users Can Still Use AI Capabilities Through Integration

At the WWDC 2023, the iPhone keyboard received a significant update with the integration of a new transformer-based speech model, which means users could get more accurate dictation and autocorrect.

Unlike its rivals, Apple plans a smooth and steady integration of AI into the iPhone features it already offers its users. This way, Apple users can catch up with the latest technology, Venture Beat reported.  While Apple is doing this, its rivals are reportedly trying to build bigger models with server farms.

Apple's rivals reportedly invested heavily in building bigger models with supercomputers and terabytes of data. The Cupertino tech giant usually shows new features of its products quietly enabled by AI instead of talking big about AI models and technology.

While OpenAI's ChatGPT took the world by storm, many users still spotted inaccuracies with the chatbot. Even the company itself noted that the tool was still prone to inaccurate information.

Apple's Approach Different From Other Companies That Invest Heavily Into AI

With Apple's simple talks on AI, it seemed that the company wanted to avoid giving inaccurate information. However, it still improved the current features of iPhones with the help of AI and machine learning technologies. Apple is reportedly taking this improved dictation and autocorrect accuracy features to a billion iPhone owners.

The On-Device AI Solution Also Bypasses Multiple Privacy Issues

It was also reported that the on-device AI would help bypass many issues that users have regarding privacy which can be experienced with cloud-based solutions. Since it can run on the user's phone, the company won't have to collect any user data.

According to CNBC, Apple does not talk much about "artificial intelligence" as it prefers to use the term "machine learning," which still talks about adaptive technology.
