Nintendo has finally announced the long-awaited Detective Pikachu sequel's release date. Detective Pikachu Returns will be released on October 6, much to fans' delight.

The Pokémon Company announced the game in May 2019, but nothing was known about it. Fans anxiously awaited updates about the sequel of the hit video game, according to VGC News.

Players can explore the exciting world of detective work with the witty and caffeinated Pikachu in the upcoming Detective Pikachu game, which will be accessible just on the Nintendo Switch gaming system.

Nintendo's official blurb teases players with the chance to "discover the origin of the great detective Pikachu" as they solve Ryme City's mysteries alongside the chatty Pikachu. Players will help Tim Goodman, the game's lead character, and his talkative Pikachu companion solve a series of mysteries in this cinematic adventure game. Players will set out on an intriguing adventure packed with deduction, riddles, and tension with the aid of other Pokémon characters.

According to Nintendo's press release, the sequel intends to investigate Pikachu's mysterious identity. Pikachu, who was associated with Tim's father, Harry, confessed in the first game that he had amnesia and didn't remember his background or why Tim could understand him. The sequel will reveal Pikachu's origins, something fans are excited to learn, The Verge reported.

The Long Wait is Finally Over

The last significant update to the sequel's status was in September 2022; news regarding it has been rare since then. A senior game programmer at Creatures Inc., the firm behind Detective Pikachu, said on his LinkedIn page that he was working on "one unannounced project" and "one nearing release, Detective Pikachu 2."

The first Detective Pikachu game, launched in Japan in 2016 and the US in 2018, told the gripping tale of Tim Goodman, who searched for his missing father, per Comic Book. The game stood out because of its emphasis on deduction and riddles, which differed from the usual Pokémon bouts and fighting.

Due to the game's popularity, a live-action version was released in 2019. Ryan Reynolds provided the voice of Detective Pikachu, while Justice Smith played Tim Goodman. Positive reviews for the movie demonstrated the public appeal of video game adaptations and strengthened the popularity of the Detective Pikachu series.
