Google previously launched the "Nearby Share" feature for Windows which is a way for people to easily share files between laptops and desktops. However, the feature hasn't been as popular despite it being a great way for users to send files from Android to Windows.

The Feature Works Not Just with Android to Android but Now Also Android to Windows

According to the story by ZD Net, the feature dropped early this year for Windows and since then, it has provided a way for users to easily share files between mobile devices and computers like laptops or desktops.

Upon its initial launch in 2020, as seen on Wired, the feature was initially for two Android devices only, which allowed users to send files from one device to another by simply choosing the files, or multiple files, and deciding where to send them.

Users Will be Able to Find the Tool Useful Especially If They Want to Transfer a Whole Folder

So far, users were able to find the tool very useful, especially with the app being able to estimate how long the transfer would take while also showing an image preview for users to be able to confirm that they're sending the right file.

It was also noted that the feature was capable of sending multiple files at once, recently, a few users have discovered that it's possible to send whole folders and their contents at once as well. This would be especially useful when sharing to or from a Windows computer since all the files show up in a folder anyway.

Users Can Send Entire Folders Instead of Just Specific Files

As of press time, with the newer Nearby Share, the process works fully with the Google file explorer as well as the native file app by Samsung. This would allow users to send entire folders instead of just specific files.

It was also revealed that file sharing between the devices remained a bit clunky and that the manufacturers had a feature that dealt directly with the process. However, the feature only worked within a small ecosystem.

Users Can Get Nearby Share Directly from the Android Website to Start Transferring Files at Scale

When it comes to transferring files between devices, this often means that users would have to email or use a third-party app. However, the tool, users would be able to send files directly with the Nearby Share feature.

Users would be able to download the app from the official Android website and once done, users can sign into their Google account. After that, users will also be able to send files to any device that's connected to the same WiFi network.

The file-transferring Nearby Share feature provides an easy way for users to send files not just from Android to Android, but also to Windows devices. Users can also send files in bulk from folders, instead of having to select them individually.
