The construction of Agility Robotics' revolutionary factory in Salem, Oregon, represents a major advancement in the area of robotics.

This manufacturing facility, dubbed "RoboFab," is prepared to mass-produce Agility Robotics' ground-breaking humanoid robots, suitably dubbed "Digit," created to work in harmony with people in industrial settings.

Each Digit robot has two legs and two arms, and they are designed to maneuver around human-centric environments like factories and warehouses while performing a variety of activities alongside humans.

Damion Shelton, co-founder and CEO of Agility Robotics, called the facility a milestone in robotics. The 70,000-square-foot RoboFab can address workplace challenges including accidents, burnout, turnover, and labor shortages.

Making Society Better

By addressing worker issues and enhancing human productivity, Agility Robotics hopes to have a revolutionary effect on society. Shelton said, as quoted in a TechCrunch report, "When you're building new technology to make society better, the most important milestone is when you're able to mass produce that technology at a scale where it can have a real, widespread impact."

Aindrea Campbell, COO of Agility Robotics, disclosed the factory's capabilities as well as a projected yearly manufacturing capacity of up to 10,000 humanoid robot units once the facility is fully operational. More than 500 employees are anticipated to work at the plant. With a steady ramp-up, Agility Robotics is installing and testing its first manufacturing lines.

The intricacy of the humanoid factory project was stressed by Campbell, noting that it is a fairly massive undertaking.

"There's kind of a ramp-up process. The inflection point today is that we're opening the factory, installing the production lines, and starting to grow capacity and scale with something that's never been done before," she said, as quoted in the CNBC report.

Digit: A Revolutionary Robot

Digit is specially created to function in spaces made for people, ensuring safety and usefulness. The humanoid robot may be used in a variety of jobs due to its human-centric approach, especially those that closely resemble human workflows. The first applications are focused on managing bulk materials in warehouses and distribution facilities.

The robotics firm celebrated this milestone with a movie showing its facility and Digit robots, displaying robotics' development.

Agility Robotics, which received funding from DCVC and Playground Global among venture capitalists, outperformed potential rivals such as Tesla with its Optimus project by finishing the creation of production prototype humanoid robots and setting up a plant where it can mass manufacture them.

According to Business Wire, the first Digits are expected to be available to customers who are members of the Agility Partner Program (APP) in 2024, with broad market availability anticipated in 2025.
