California-based company Zero Motorcycles, a popular brand known for manufacturing electric motorcycles, is making waves with its brand-new 2024 model line.

This exciting release introduces several new models, further expanding upon the company's top-tier frame design. Unveiled at the prestigious 2023 EICMA Milan Motorcycle Show, this announcement solidifies Zero's legacy as the oldest major electric motorcycle manufacturer.

Motorcycle fans have yet to see a new lineup of motorcycles from Zero. The vehicle maker is bringing fresh models sooner to the public.

"Every innovation from Zero Motorcycles stands as a testament to over 16 years of relentless development and a staggering 165 million miles ridden by our loyal owners. In an industry where every launch from Zero shapes history, we are proud to unveil the latest chapters in our legacy," Zero CEO Sam Paschel said via Electrek.

One of the most significant announcements pertains to Zero's motorcycle frame platforms. In 2024, the company is simplifying its offerings by streamlining its frame platforms, replacing the previous Zero S and DS models. This revamp provides a fresh perspective on these popular bikes.

The New Zero S and DS

The new Zero S, now featuring the familiar trellis frame from the SR/F introduced in 2019, boasts a larger motor and battery than ever before. With a 51 kW motor and Zero's 14.4 kWh battery pack, it offers a commendable range of 101 miles (162 km) for mixed city and highway riding.

Equally noteworthy is the updated DS model, built on the same frame with an identical drivetrain, enhancing the entry-level dual-sport segment.

Both these models can reach a maximum speed of 104 mph (167 km/h). The 2024 Zero S starts at US $14,995, while the dual-sport Zero DS begins at US $15,995. For more detailed specifications, visit Zero's website.

Zero FX and FXE: Small and Agile

The Zero FX and FXE models are now the only ones featuring the smaller 34 kW motor and frame platform. Sporting 7.2 kWh battery packs, they offer around 58 miles (93 km) of mixed city and highway riding and reach a top speed of 85 mph (137 km/h). Both the 2024 FX and FXE models start at US $12,495.

Tested and Approved: FXE's Urban Excellence

The FXE model, known for its compact size and enhanced agility, made quite an impression when tested. Whether you're a new rider or an experienced one, it serves as an easily approachable urban commuter bike, blending innovation and practicality.

Zero's flagship 2024 lineup comprises the SR/F, SR/S, and DSR/X models, each equipped with Zero's top-of-the-line features. These bikes sport the most powerful motor in the lineup, delivering a peak power of 84 kW for a maximum speed of 124 mph (200 km/h).

What sets these bikes apart is their extensive battery capacity, with an impressive 17.3 kWh that offers roughly 116 miles (186 km) of mixed city and highway range.

It's important to mention that Zero calculates battery capacity differently from most electric vehicle manufacturers.

While Zero uses maximum voltage, a more realistic calculation employing average voltage would yield approximately 15.2 kWh, 12.6 kWh, and 6.3 kWh of nominal capacity for their 17.3 kWh, 14.4 kWh, and 7.2 kWh packs, respectively.

Unlocking the World of Electric Riding

A noteworthy aspect of Zero's offerings is the availability of lower-power versions for the FXE, S, and DS models, specially tailored for markets outside the United States. There might be a reason why it's called the "Tesla of motorcycles," according to The Verge.

These models, with 11 kW of power, adhere to lower-level motorcycle licenses commonly found in non-US regions, making it easier for new riders to access Zero's electric motorcycles.

Moreover, Zero's power-limiting feature, which can be controlled by local Zero dealers, allows select models to grow with riders as they advance to higher-level motorcycle licenses.

The 2024 SR and DSR models, for instance, are compliant with A2 licenses and can be effortlessly upgraded by dealers to achieve A3 license-compliant performance, making them truly versatile and adaptable electric motorcycles.
