More cars are getting ChatGPT into their systems and/or integrated into their in-car systems, and this is the case with Volkswagen's latest announcement on their CES 2024 showcase. The company claimed that OpenAI's renowned chatbot is now available to access via the Volkswagen IDA, its in-car voice assistant that users may converse with hands-free.
IDA was said to be powered by ChatGPT via Cerence, the company that gave life to the renowned in-car assistant of the German company.

Volkswagen announced the latest technology to arrive in their cars, and this is with ChatGPT's integration to the IDA in-car voice assistant, offering the AI chatbot's capabilities to drivers and passengers. For now, there are only select models that will get the IDA with ChatGPT integration, but the company claims that this will expand more in the future.
According to Volkswagen electric and ICE cars will get the integration, including the likes of ID.7, ID.4, ID.3, the all-new Tiguan, the all-new Passat, and the all-new Golf.
This integration was made available through the Cerence Chat Pro, best known for powering Volkswagen's IDA.
Future models will also get the ChatGPT integration, with the AI easily accessible through the car's infotainment system.
The German car brand also said that user data are protected and that there will be no access in order for the AI to work. Moreover, there would be no need to install an app or create a new account to access ChatGPT via the IDA voice assistant feature.
Volkswagen also leverages its all-new ID.7 to feature the renowned AI chatbot from OpenAI, natively integrated into its system for all generative AI needs.
Volkswagen's Developments
Last year, there were many complaints against Volkswagen regarding its in-car software issues which brought a significant challenge for car owners to use, with complaints plaguing the company. This led to Porsche, one of VW's subsidiaries, to integrate Google's native apps to its in-car system, offering a way to improve the experience, while the Volkswagen Group is fixing the issues.
The company has also brought back a popular demand by its customers regarding its infotainment system and other controls in their vehicles, centering on physical buttons inside. For many years and design changes, Volkswagen has resorted to touch-based controls, and this has led to customers complaining about this application, reverting to a mix of both for its cars.
Volkswagen remains one of the top car companies in the world, and its innovations bring significant changes to its cars, including the integration of new technology that adheres to modern tech. Instead of accessing IDA's native experiences, users will get answers or feedback that are powered by ChatGPT, leveraging the deep learning AI model's massive capabilities on and off the road.
