Bloomberg reported that there will be an upcoming Spotlight Search revamp coming to Apple's devices like the iPhone, iPad, and Mac computers, one that gets an LLM boost from the company. This will be under the various AI coding and testing features that it will release on the Xcode, offering a more powerful version of the Spotlight that Apple users have presently.

This is "under consideration" by Apple for now, one that would get generative AI features and offer more complex features.

Spotlight Search can be accessed quickly via the iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch by swiping down from the top of the screen, and it can locate local files and emails, access apps, and search Safari, alongside other features.

On the other hand, the Mac may be accessed by finding it at the Menu bar, by the top right side, or by entering Command + Space (space bar) on the keyboard.

Apple's Reportedly Massive Generative AI Plans

Going back to Apple's plans to bring generative AI, it will start with the Xcode to help developers in their apps and features creation, also capable of working with Microsoft's GitHub Copilot.

Later this year, this feature on Xcode will bring the said features to third-party developers, alongside other AI technology speculated for iOS 18.

Apple and AI Development

The former most valuable company in the world is not shying AI away, however, the company did not rush the developments of its take on the most powerful technology present now, not joining the race like its Big Tech Rivals. Apple CEO Tim Cook previously said that there are potential AI developments that are coming to its products soon, but it would need to be under its meticulous eyes and be responsible for making it.

Moreover, Apple is going in the other direction, unlike Google and Microsoft which made their AI and various experiences under their LLMs to be under the cloud. In Apple's take, reports claim that it would be running on hardware, meaning that users may access it locally and may depend on the device if it supports the technology, and not part of its cloud.

There was a recent generative AI prototype unveiled by Apple's researchers with text-to-animation capabilities and rumored artificial intelligence developments coming to iOS 18.

Now, the famed Spotlight Search found on the iPhone, iPad, and Mac computers is getting a generative AI boost, powered by a new LLM potentially coming soon.
