The latest version of Android Auto brings new apps for drivers and passengers to enjoy, but the catch is, that users may only access this when their vehicle is parked. While Google did not explicitly mention anything about safety regarding its decision, these apps will only be accessible when the car is in a stationary position, offering more accessibility and entertainment for people in the car.

In this latest version of the Android Auto platform, users will be given a visual reminder that specific apps can only be accessed when parked, avoiding frustration and lingering on the screen while driving.

SmartDroid reported the new changes to Google's latest version of Android Auto, particularly with version 11.4 of the system which identifies apps to only be accessible when parked. Navigating through the Android Auto interface, users may find apps that have the "P" icon displayed atop it, and this means that these applications would only launch when the vehicle is in park.

The report centers on one app called "GameSnacks," it is a collection of experiences on Android Auto that brings entertainment to car owners and passengers to enjoy when stationary.

Its main focus is on electric vehicles which are known for taking time when charging their cars in stations, giving them a collection of titles to enjoy via the touchscreen.

Google's Latest Update to Android Auto for Drivers

It was not reiterated what other apps are restricted to access, exclusive to parked vehicles only, with Google's latest update determining this as it is connected to the car itself. While this is only a minor update from Google, it ensures road safety for drivers, especially as GameSnacks would not launch when the car is moving or in its drive mode, even if those who are accessing it are its passengers.

Android Auto and What It Has to Offer

Google gave Android Auto a significant position to be in, serving as the trusty interface to drivers and passengers while traveling or simply going from one place to the other. It also resolved a known issue that prevents drivers from accessing their Android phone's Google Maps display when it is connected to the infotainment system, particularly as Android Auto's display is simple and only has limited driving information.

Alongside Android Auto, Google also develops software and user interfaces for infotainment systems, one that allows manufacturers to use and improve further to fit their branding and preferences. It is widely known that General Motors once partnered with the internet company with its Google-made infotainment system, one that moved away from Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

The Android Auto experience offers better access to the car's infotainment system by bringing the familiar Android smartphone interface to the vehicle, in a more straightforward approach. This latest update by Google, ups the safety feature of Android Auto for its users, with selected apps only available for access when parked to avoid accidents and unwanted incidents to occur.
