Google One VPN Shutting Down in June, Pixel to Get Its Own Soon

Google One's VPN shut down will see a replacement for Pixels.

The Google One VPN will shut down this June, as confirmed by the company in an update on its support page. Previously, it only said it would happen in "the coming months."

However, for users on the Pixel, this does not spell "the end" for the service per se, as Google will soon launch a dedicated service called VPN.

A new update on Google One's support page revealed the shutdown date for its soon-to-be-defunct VPN service, saying it will no longer be available starting June 20. Initially, Google only said an unspecific shutdown for the service.

Still, it clarified now that it will no longer see the other half of 2024, with users given suggestions of other VPN services from Google.

Moreover, Google is also asking users to VPN using Google One from their devices before the service ends, depending on the device.

For mobile, go to your device's Settings and click on Connection & sharing (for Android) or VPN & Device Management (for iOS). Then, delete your VPN profile and go to the Google One app to turn it off via Benefits > View Details.

Pixel to Get 'VPN by Google' in The Future

That being said, Google's One VPN is the only service getting the chop, as it would still be available for those under the Google Fi Wireless plans with the free private network.

On the other hand, Pixel 8 users need not worry as it is already built-in, but the Pixel 7 series and the Pixel Fold will have it available by June 3's system update.

Google One's VPN Service

Back in 2021, Google One's VPN service rolled out for its users worldwide, initially available for ten countries in its debut, under the subscription-based service that also offers other of what the internet company has to offer.

It was an add-on service for those who purchased 2TB and higher cloud storage on the Google Drive platform.

After first debuting to Android, Google has branched out to other devices to use the Google One VPN under the monthly paid service for the iOS platform, specifically for iPhones.

Later, it was also made available to access Mac platforms, offering the VPN service to Apple computer users as long as they were subscribed to the service.

Google canceled various services along the way that offer significant features, including last year's cancellation of the Pixel Pass, which combines different services, amidst other subscriptions facing price hikes.

Now, Google One's VPN is facing closure as not many users are utilizing it, but this does not mean the end for Pixel and Google Fi users who need the company's private network service.
