Microsoft has released the latest version of the Technical Preview of Windows 10 for Windows Phone, bringing a number of new features to larger Windows Phone devices.

One of the biggest new features in the mobile operating system is the inclusion of the new Project Spartan web browser.

Those who have downloaded the new Technical Preview say that the update is a little slow, even taking a long time to just install. Despite this, now that many have installed the update it should be a little quicker. Not only that, but any problems with the rollout of the update appear to have been fixed.

As mentioned, perhaps the largest addition to the operating system is Project Spartan. While Project Spartan is not the default web browser for Windows 10 just yet and it does not include many of the features of its desktop counterpart, it should give users a taste of how the browser will work. It is expected that this version of the browser will also include a number of bugs, so it makes sense that Spartan is not the default just yet. Not only that, but reports indicate that Spartan is currently quite slow, despite the fact that it feels intuitive to use.

The new operating system also includes a number of upgrades to apps that have been in Windows 10 for a while. These include the Phone, Messaging and People apps. The Maps app has also been revamped bringing together Bing Maps and HERE to offer local navigation and voice-guided navigation. Maps is one of the apps that will be bridging the gap between mobile and desktop use, and if the maps app on desktop looks anything like the mobile version, Microsoft is headed in the right direction.

Microsoft's Outlook Mail has also been given a facelift, bringing in a number of features from Microsoft Word in order to offer improved editing and formatting tools for those creating emails.

The new build also expands the number of devices that are able to support the Windows 10 Phone Technical Preview, with most Lumia devices now being able to expand the operating system. There are, of course, some exceptions to this, with the Lumia 930, Lumia 640 XL and Lumia Icon all going unsupported.

As is the case with the Windows 10 Technical Preview for PC, users need to be a member of the Windows Insider program in order to be allowed to download the update.
