Google has begun rolling out updates to Docs, Sheets and Slides for Android. The latest version adds notable improvements to editing and makes collaboration in Office Compatibility Mode a much smoother experience for users.

The upgrade allows users to quickly edit titles or rename files straight from the overflow menu. This changes the past system of editing the document's title solely by saving. In the new version, users can simply edit titles for documents, spreadsheets and slide presentations in the text-entry field displayed by the overflow menu on the top right corner of the UI.

To start editing, users should first slide the menu in from the right. Next, they should be able to tap the area that reads "TestDoc.docx" or any file that is currently open. A dialog box will then appear on the far right, which will allow the user to edit.

Not only has the whole process become more simplified, but it has also made the menu look better than before.

In terms of the Slides app, users can now do some layout changes to an existing slide by replacing it with one of several premade layouts that Google has stored within the app. Since the apps are accessed on a mobile device, Google believes that the new layout feature will make it easier for users to customize their layouts with improved access and speed.

Another notable change is the enhanced collaboration feature within the Docs app, which can come in handy for those who often use Office Compatibility Mode on their devices. Users can now reply to comments when they are working and can also view comments and suggestions easily as these are now grouped together and not separately. Each comment or suggestion appears one after another as soon as a new one is executed. Users can either accept or reject any suggested edits and ignore or reply to a comment.

As always, Google Docs, Sheets and Slides are free and are synced automatically to the user's Google Drive. Each update is expected to roll out and arrive soon on Google Play for Android users. There's no word yet if the same features of the update are also coming to iOS.
