Despite the fact that most gamers consider the series to be a console exclusive, Gears of War is no stranger to the PC platform. Back when the original game was first released, Gears of War on PC was easily the best way to play it: not only did the port sport a bunch of extra content, but it played far more smoothly on PC hardware than it ever did on the Xbox 360.

That's why, when Microsoft announced that the upcoming Gears of War: Ultimate Edition would be making its way to both Xbox One and PC, no one was all that surprised. It only made sense for the best version of Gears of War to make its way back to PC — that's where it first debuted!

However, it seems as if PC players are getting the short end of the stick with Gears of War: Ultimate Edition ... for the time being, at least. Don't worry, it's not as if Microsoft is axing any features or bringing back Games for Windows Live — it's just that Gears of War: Ultimate Edition will be hitting the Xbox One before it lands on Windows 10.

Yes, it's true: earlier today, Xbox head honcho Phil Spencer confirmed that, while Gears of War: Ultimate Edition is definitely headed to Windows 10 PCs sometime this year, it won't be making it in time for the Xbox One launch.

What's even worse is that Spencer didn't exactly give a reason for the PC version's delay. It's easy to assume that such a delay would be announced for something like additional testing or if the PC port needed some extra work — as it stands, PC gamers are stuck waiting for seemingly no good reason.

This isn't even the first bad news that Spencer's delivered today: the Xbox executive also confirmed that both Sea of Thieves and ReCore would be skipping Microsoft's showing at GamesCom 2015.

With any luck, it won't be long before Microsoft reveals the game's new release date — or, at the very least, a reason why it won't be hitting store shelves alongside its console counterpart.

For Xbox One owners, Gears of War: Ultimate Edition is set for release on Aug. 25.
