We live in a multi-tasking world, which means that devices are rarely used for just one purpose these days. So why would you not stick a TV remote on top of a wireless speaker?

Those are apparently Sony's sentiments exactly. The company will begin selling a new SRS-LSR100 TV speaker and remote in one in Japan for 19,880 Yen (or about $167) beginning Sept. 12.

Though the speaker may look like something from 20 years ago, it's designed to complement our current multi-tasking lifestyles. The idea is to have a portable wireless speaker for your TV that you can bring with you and control no matter where you are in the house. Something like this would come in particularly handy when you're doing something that wouldn't necessarily require watching TV but just have the sound on in the background, like cooking in the kitchen, for instance.

The dual 2W speaker connects with the TV through a wireless dongle. The speaker's dimensions are 196 millimeters x 74 millimeters x 77 millimeters, and it weighs about 440 grams. The top of the device has a little handle with which you can cart your speaker all over the house.

Users can adjust the TV volume using the large knob on the right side of the device as well as use a number of other buttons typically found on a TV remote. There's also a "Voice Zoom" feature that makes it easier to hear when someone is speaking on TV. The speaker's battery lasts for up to 16 hours after a full three-hour charge, and there's also a headphone jack in case you'd like to keep your TV watching to yourself.
