Amazon's Mayday button lets a user to get in touch with Amazon's customer services in just under 10 seconds.

Amazon introduced the Mayday feature on the Kindle Fire HDX tablets in Sept. 2013. The Mayday button in Quick Settings allows an Amazon Kindle Fire HDX tablet owner to connect to a live customer service representative via video chat. Amazon said at the announcement of the Mayday feature that the company aims to respond to customers within 15 seconds. However, Amazon now claims that Mayday button users are now able to connect to customer service on an average of just 9.75 seconds.

Amazon highlights that the service is free to use and available 24 hours of the day and all 365 days of the year.

"When we set out to invent the Mayday button, we wanted to revolutionize tech support-and we're happy to report it's working!" says Scott Brown, Director, Amazon Customer Service. "75% of customer contacts for Fire HDX now come via the Mayday button. Even as the Mayday button has grown to become the most popular way for customers to ask questions, the team's been able to beat the response time goal of 15 seconds or less-our average is just 9.75 seconds."

With live support available at the tip of the fingers, Kindle Fire HDX customers can resolve any tech-related queries they have regarding their tablets. Even though the Mayday feature is meant to offer tech-related solutions to the supported Amazon tablets, customer service advisors also come across unusual requests from customers. To name a few, Amazon says that its Mayday customer service has helped a customer complete an Angry Birds stage after being stuck for a week. A boyfriend gifted an Amazon Kindle Fire HDX to his girlfriend and requested a Mayday advisor to sing Happy Birthday.

Amazon claims that it has received a lot of positive feedback from customers who have used the Mayday feature.

"The Mayday feature ROCKS! I've used it twice already and both times the tech support was just the best! Amazon you have the best device support on the market today!" per a customer who used the feature.

The tablet industry is replete with devices offered by various companies. However, a service like Mayday makes Amazon stand out of the crowd in terms of after sales customer service. With the success of the Mayday feature it should not come as a surprise if the online retailer includes the feature in its future tablets as well.
