Sony Interactive Entertainment has confirmed that they are testing PlayStation Plus Video Pass in Poland. This announcement came after Sony uploaded images to its website on Apr. 21, teasing the launch of the said service.

Sony's PlayStation Plus Video Pass service

On Apr. 22, the logo for PlayStation Plus Video Pass was published on Sony's Polish website, along with a brief description.

The description stated that the PlayStation Plus Video Pass is a benefit that is available at a limited time in Poland, and it is a trial service that is active for only a year, from Apr. 22, 2021 to Apr. 22, 2022. The description has since been deleted on the website.

The said service allows PS4 and PS5 users in the country to access over 20 movie and TV shows from Sony Pictures as part of PlayStation Plus subscriptions, with more content being added every three months.

However, it is not clear if the listing is describing a global service or if it will remain in Poland as a local one.

Last month, Sony announced that the PlayStation Store would stop offering TV and movie content for purchase or rental later this year, according to VGC.

Starting Aug. 31, video content will no longer be available through the digital storefront, Sony said. However, existing purchases will still be available to access.

It could be that the platform holder is already looking to increase the value of its paid subscription service, especially since the competition from Xbox Game Pass is very strong. Sony is looking to roll some video offerings into PlayStation Plus.

The three movies featured in PlayStation.com's now-removed website banner includes "Venom," "Bloodshot," and "Zombieland," all of which are produced by Sony's own movie business. Sonly also owns numerous television content through Sony Pictures Television, and anime content through Funimation, which it acquired last year.

A massive number of streaming services are currently available on PS4 and PS5, including Netflix, Disney+, Apple TV, among others.

PlayStation's latest updates

Recently, PlayStation launched initiatives that could be viewed as moves to counter the popularity of Games Pass.

With the launch of PlayStation 5, Sony debuted the PlayStation Plus Collection, which is a library of 20 PS4 games. Subscribers of PlayStation Plus can play the 20 PS4 games on their PS5.

When asked if there were any plans to grow the collection, which currently consists of 10 first-party games and 10 third-party ones, the President of Sony Interactive Entertainment, Jim Ryan, told GQ that Sony is taking a wait-and-see approach.

Sony reduced PlayStation Now's prices in October 2019 in a move to be more competitive with its rival streaming services, and also began adding famous games every month, but are available for a limited time.

Earlier this month, it was claimed that Sony Interactive Entertainment, was working on a counterpunch to Microsoft's popular Xbox Game Pass service.

Sony is making efforts to amalgamate its video game and movie offerings. PlayStation Productions was formed in 2019 by Sony Interactive Entertainment to adapt its original game properties for film and TV.

The first film from PlayStation Productions is the movie "Uncharted," which was delayed. The company is also working on a "The Last of Us" adaptation with HBO, a live-action "Ghost of Tsushima" movie to be directed by Chad Stahelski, and a "Twisted Metal" TV series from "Deadpool's" writers, among other projects.
