The HTC Re Camera is now available at a massive discount, shedding $150 off its regular price. The gadget is now available for just $50, directly from HTC.

The company announced its standalone HTC Re Camera a while back, teasing it as a "remarkable little camera" that can serve as a great companion. HTC boasted that its handheld camera is compact, fun and easy to use, streaming everything to the users' phone to they can easily edit photos and share them with just one press of a button.

The HTC Re Camera has a unique design and it is indeed great for easy one-handed operation, but it takes much more than that to lure potential customers away from Sony or GoPro cameras. HTC doesn't have the same reputation as Sony and GoPro when it comes to cameras. Thus, its Re Camera wasn't exactly a smashing hit at $199.

The new 75 percent discount, however, could convince more potential buyers to give the HTC Re Camera a shot. At just $50, the gadget could even qualify as an impulse buy, and it would still likely attract more customers than it did at its regular price point.

The HTC Re Camera is available from HTC's U.S. online store in several color options: white, blue, orange and teal. To further sweeten the deal, the company is also throwing in free shipping with the purchase.

As a reminder, the HTC Re Camera is waterproof (up to 1 meter underwater), has a 16-megapixel sensor with a 146-degree wide-angle lens, a microSD card slot for storing the photos and videos it captures, and offers some neat functionality. The periscope-shaped camera works with both iOS and Android apps and pairs even with non-Android smartphones for viewfinder functionality and easy transfers.

It remains unclear whether HTC is applying the same discount to its Re Camera in other countries as well, or whether the $150 price cut is juts for the U.S. Either way, the new $50 price tag allows for significant savings and marks its lowest price yet. Amazon recently discounted the device as well, but it still costs around $100. Best Buy, meanwhile, is selling the Re Camera for $150, so HTC's offer is currently the best one.
